Scale & elements
Can FOC Capture track thousands of individual elements?
Yes. FOC Capture's element register is built to handle large-scale projects. A 5,000-element job is a normal job. Every element can be tracked across time, linked to documentation, inspections, photos, and defect records. Search, filter, and report on any element, from reinforcement schedules to finishes, at any point in the project timeline.
What counts as an "element"?
Whatever unit of work you need to prove was built correctly. In practice that means things like:
- Precast panels
- Welds and pipe spools
- Pile caps, footings and grade beams
- Reinforcement schedules
- Finishes
Each element carries its own identity, status, and history: its own ITP, its own hold and witness points, and its own evidence trail.
Why element level instead of lot or job level?
Because that is the level a dispute happens at. When someone asks which panel, which weld, or which pour is in question, a job-level record cannot answer it. Element-level records can, down to the specific element at the specific moment, with the sign-off and the evidence attached.
ITPs & hold points
How do ITPs work at element level?
ITPs are broken to element-level granularity, with hold points and witness points generated automatically. Every element gets its own traceable ITP without extra effort: you apply the plan once and it lands on every element it covers.
What is the difference between a hold point and a witness point?
A hold point stops work until it is released: you cannot proceed past it without the required inspection and sign-off. A witness point gives the nominated party the opportunity to attend, but work may continue if they do not. FOC Capture tracks both against the element, so an open hold point is visible before the next activity starts rather than after.
Can we use our own ITP templates?
Yes. Every account gets the same library of inspection and test plans, and every account can modify them to suit itself. The required ITRs can be changed to match the project or the company, and the form builder covers record types the library does not carry. None of this depends on which plan you are on. If you have an established set of plans you need carried across, get in touch and we will talk through what is involved.
Field & offline
Does it work without signal?
Yes. It is built for site, with no dependency on connectivity. Photos, notes, measurements, and test results are captured offline, timestamped and element-tagged as you go, and synced when signal returns.
Every ITR the project uses is already on the device before the crew leaves range, including the ones nobody has opened before. Those are usually the ones a crew meets for the first time out there. Anything still queued is named on screen: a record that has not landed yet says so rather than looking like it has.
What platforms does it run on?
Field capture runs on Android. The portal, which carries registers, reporting and administration, runs in the browser at app.foccapture.com.au.
Can I try it before committing?
Yes. The interactive demo walks the real workflow in seven steps: spreadsheet in, drawing georeferenced, one ITP onto 96 panels, then the phone. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no card and no signup.
Data & custody
Can I export my data?
Yes, and in open formats. You can export records, reports, and element data in standard formats at any time, wherever the project is stored. No lock-in, no vendor entanglement. Your data leaves with you.
Where is my data actually stored?
Integrated with your own Google Drive. Your records stay readable without us. Enterprise adds hosted storage with a minimum retention period and an immutable record, and is not open for sign-up yet. Either way the record is written in open formats: CSV, JSON and PDF.
Which one you get follows the plan. FOC Capture keeps the record in infrastructure you already control and already have an account with. Enterprise is for projects that have to demonstrate the record was retained for a defined period and left unaltered.
What happens to our records if we stop paying?
Records in your Google Drive stay exactly where they already are, in open formats you can read without us, because there was never a point where we held the only copy. On either plan, records and reports export in open formats at any time. There is no export scramble at the end of a subscription.
Records & compliance
Does FOC Capture certify that our work is compliant?
No, and it is worth being clear about that. We record evidence of work: what was done, when, by whom, against which plan, with which results. You and your verifiers assess compliance. The system's job is to make sure the evidence exists, is traceable, and holds up when someone examines it.
How do as-built records work?
Survey coordinates are held against design tolerances, with deviations flagged and explained rather than quietly averaged away. Conformance reports generate in seconds, structured to hold up under audit.
Do you track crew and contractor compliance too?
Yes. Contractor documents, employee licences, tickets, and plant registrations are tracked with expiry alerts, so a lapse surfaces before someone is turned away at the gate.
How long do we need to keep these records?
It varies by state and by contract. We keep a reference on retention periods by state, but your contract may well require longer than the statutory minimum. Check it before you archive anything.
Pricing
How much does it cost?
Pricing is to be confirmed on all four plan and term combinations. Creating an account is free. FOC Capture is the quality system, with unlimited projects and users. Enterprise adds hosted storage with a minimum retention period and an immutable record, and is not open for sign-up yet. Nothing else differs between the plans today. Either can be taken per project or per month, which changes how you pay rather than what you get. The plans page lists what each one carries.
Full breakdown on the pricing section.
Do you charge per user?
No. Pricing is per project, not per person, and both plans include unlimited team members. Adding the whole crew, the subcontractors, and the client's representative costs nothing extra, which is the point, because a quality record with half the participants locked out is not a quality record.
Can a subcontractor send us evidence without being set up first?
Yes. Every project has its own email address. A subcontractor can seek approval or send evidence, mix designs and accreditations to the project without an account, a seat, or an invitation from you first. It lands against the project rather than in somebody's inbox, and the quality manager triages it as it arrives. Sender logos and signature graphics are filtered out of the way, leaving the document they meant to send.
Scope
Does this replace our project management software?
No. We do not set out to replace project management, and we do not do design authoring, location tracking, or generic document storage. FOC Capture is a quality management system: it records evidence of work at element level. If you already run programme and commercial elsewhere, keep doing that.
Does it handle variations and RFIs?
Yes. Formal change requests and information requests with approval workflows and a dated trail, so one disputed variation does not get to define the project.
What sort of work is it built for?
Major projects, precast, energy, oil and gas, civil infrastructure, and structural steel, work where the number of individual elements is large enough that job-level records stop being adequate.
